BINATIKOS ni House Deputy Speaker at La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega ang pahayag ng legal team ni Vice President Sara Duterte na umano’y “walang smoking gun” o matibay na ebidensya laban sa Bise Presidente sa impeachment complaint na inihain sa Senado.
“What do they mean there is no smoking gun? Hindi ba nila pinanood ang mga pagdinig? Baka naka-mute ang TV nila noong hearings. O baka fast forward lang ang pinanood nila,” ani Ortega.
Binigyang-diin ng kongresista na hindi umano haka-haka o pulitika ang batayan ng impeachment complaint kundi mga sinumpaang salaysay, opisyal na rekord, financial documents, findings ng Commission on Audit, certifications at maging mga naging pahayag mismo ng bise presidente.
“You do not get a 257-25 vote in the House on pure speculation. Hindi ito tsismis, memes, o chain message sa Viber. Constitutional process ito backed by evidence,” dagdag nito.
Ayon pa kay Ortega, tila kinukondisyon umano ng kampo ni Duterte ang publiko para balewalain ang mga ebidensyang inilatag sa iba’t ibang pagdinig.
Iginiit din nito na hindi political persecution ang impeachment kundi usapin ng constitutional accountability.
“The Senate impeachment court is precisely the proper forum to test the evidence. If they truly believe the case is weak, then they should welcome the trial instead of repeatedly trying to discredit the process before it even begins. If they truly believe there is no case, then they should stop acting allergic to a Senate trial,” ani Ortega.
Kabilang sa apat na pangunahing reklamo sa impeachment ang umano’y maling paggamit ng confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery at grave threats.
